NEED HELP ASAP WITH ITTY BITTY CAT!!!! long post

Thank you!

I just ckecked on her and she seems to be doing fine. Can't tell how dehydrated she is...not sure if I did the pinch test correctly. She is drinking water very well, although this is NOT her favorite thing to drink. She loves milk. But I will stay away from it for a while.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS! I don't know what I would do without my BYC friends.

to get the sap off the cat try either rubbing alcohol OR Deep woods Off! they both work pretty good. Don't spray directly on the sap...spray it on a rag first and wipe it...don't want to get any in the cats eyes or nose. After that rinse/wash the paws so she doesn't lick her fur!

SO glad she is doing better...good to hear she is drinking water! She needs it...by tomorrow I would leave her water bowl full UNLESS She is drinking the whole bowl down. If she is only drinking a little at a time just leave it for her. Your a good kitty mommy!!

Let us know how the sap removal goes

GOOD LUCK! Someone also mentioned Mayo working good for sap removal if you don't have the others. I never tried the mayo but the off works really good!

you might try to get a little pedialite in her for the dehydration, that might help.
Don't feel bad you are doing your best and your doing just fine. Sometimes if you call the animal rescue in your area they might give you valuable medical advice. there also might be a habitat for humanity in your area.
My daughters cat was very sick and she has 2 children and couldn't afford a vet. they paid the vet bill for her. and milky is very happy and healthy now.
They were awesome.
good luck and keep us posted

on the pinch test. pinch the skin at the back of the neck if it stays pinched then she is dehydrated if it flattens out then she is fine.

Nutri-cal would be a very good thing to give her, I've used it before on cats so emaciated that I really didn't think they would make it... its good stuff.

Original formula gojo hand cleaner will take the tar off, just make sure its all rinsed off so she doesn't injest it.

In a pinch WD-40 will work too, it will take road tar off of cars.

I agree with everyone about feeding frequent small meals, 20 years ago I fed a starving cat too much and it died.

Funny thing is...my DH suggested the same two things. I was quite concerned about the WD-40. I was afraid that she would digest it after cleaning herself.

HEY - I did the dehydrated test again (thank you Purr) and she is not as bad as I originally thought. I don't know if this made a difference, but for the last week we have had rain at least once a day. Maybe she was able to get enough rain water off of her coat to keep her hydrated....or maybe it's my wishful thinking.

* WD-4O is great stuff, but DH reminded me it IS a petroleum distillate and may be absorbed through the skin. Possibly not a great idea for a kitty already in a bad way. Maybe a dab of Crisco?? If it's really bad, I would trim it off carefully. She may look like a rag-a-muffin for awhile but it'll grow back.
