Need help! Chick breathing with beak open

Sadly I found him dead under the lamp this morning :(
if everyone else is ok, then I would figure something was wrong with that little one....sometimes that happens...no obvious reason...it just happens...I had a bunch of Chuker chicks a few years ago and the same thing happened...i lose a few for what seemed like no reason I could find...they just died....quail are just like chicken chicks as far as the mother feeding them...she will show them the where and how of it but she will not feed them like baby robin's, put food in their little open beaks...they have to keep up with her and imitate her feeding...

I am so sorry to hear about your loss! Did you order them from a package that came from a hatchery, or hatched them yourself? He could've had the same thing my chicks had - which is not getting enough heat, according to the owner of the hatchery. They end up breathing out of their mouth consistently and aren't much active. I had to force-feed them water because they were too weak to stand, and they'd take the water in but never ended up surviving. Respiratory problems, said the owner.
