Need Help Choosing A Breed?!?!?

Thank you both! I will be getting them this Saturday, i can't wait. I will be getting Buff Orpingtons by the way. I'm getting 4 day old chicks. Also how much roost space do your chickens have in the coop?
Thanks again!

Thanks again!:cd

No problem! We have roughly a meter long 2x4 for the 2. Our Jersey Giants rarely sleep on the 2x4 (they usually go to the upper laying area of the coop), but when they do, all of them can squeeze in. They are all fairly small still, so we will probably add another 2x4 for them :). My buffs normally smush against eachother, leaving plenty of space. I sometimes even find one pushing it's head under the other's feathers! Just make sure they have a nice 2x4 because they are not the type of birds to be able to perch on thin planks. They need a wider surface than something like a branch as their toes are not built to curl too much like some birds. Have fun with your chicks!

Hope this helps :)

Thanks and do they need a 2x4 or will a 2x2 work for them??

2x4 wide side up.

I have BOrps, and found that when they were small, a narrow roost was fine ...... but now that they are larger, they don't so much perch at night as sit on their feet.... and will sit on the wire poopscreens rather than use the narrow roost bar that I gave them months ago ..... I just replaced it with two 1x4 (chicken tractor- saving weight) roosts laid flat. They are using those now instead of the floor. I find that mine also like to "smush together" on the roost, even when it's a hot muggy summer night.......

Thus far, my BOrps have been great- forage well, quiet, calm, friendly, get along well even though they are a bit crowded ...... can't tell you yet how they lay - only about 15 weeks old ...... the only downsides I can see are they are not as pretty as some of the flashier breeds, and they are very similar in appearance- you have to look closely to tell them apart.

Buff Orpington's are a great breed! I have been doing some research on chicken breeds and will suggest some I have discovered: buckeye, wyndottes, and Dominique chickens. Hope this can help
