Water mixed with electrolytes, a mix we bought with the chicks

Is it mixed right? It shouldn't look so dark and cloudy. If it is not mixed correctly, or there is something going on with the water you are using, it could be causing the trouble. And, it needs to be made fresh daily as it can spoil in the heat of the brooder.

Remove the electrolytes just give them fresh water, the water looks dirty from the pics, they should not need electrolytes unless they are actually dehydrated, the water will spoil alot quicker with this added too.

You know, I feel like "crap"!!! I noticed your cloudy water when you first posted the photo, but seeing that 2Crows previously responded, I just skimmed over her reply and opted not to question the water in the jars (she's like a walking genious when it comes to medical attention for Quail, so I felt no need to mention it). By pointing out your water issue when I first saw it, I could have saved those 5+ birds you lost by mentioning it earlier.
Also, I purchased one of these things... screwed into the socket and I was able to adjust the amount of light/heat the lamp was producing without having to raise the height of the lamp.

James, MANY times you see things that I can over look and in this case, I did NOT notice that water till you posted about it. So for that, you deserve a thumbs up! Several eyes are better than one and I can not see everything. Sometimes I over look things because I think they are so obvious to most people. Because I have been doing this for so long, I assume everybody knows everything. LOL

Anyway, PLEASE post on things, even if you are repeating me. It not only helps people see the point, but also fills in the gaps that I have missed. I just hate when birds are ill or dying and it matters not who helps them, me or someone else.

I wondered how people controlled their temps! Water dishes washed again, fresh water only in. we are.down to about 25 babies.

What stinks- I just dont know what to change! Theu look so good, running around, drinking and eating, then they sit down, get query, shut their eyes and are dead within 30 minutes

You are going to need to determine what your actual temp in the brooder is. So get yourself a reliable thermometer. Check your feed and make sure it is not old, stale, moldy, buggy or is not layer feed by accident. Keep the water changed daily.

If all else fails, you can try some antibiotics in the water for 7 days. Medicating babies is never a good idea, but in this case, It is possible they have a bacterial infection. It won't hurt them at this point.

How about putting a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a gallon of water instead of the antibiotics or electrolytes? Alot of people say it does the same as both of the others but its cheap and more natural. It wont hurt them either way. I give it to my Dogs, Chickens, Quail and take it myself for that matter.

Apple cider vinegar is an excellent preventive and has wonderful properties. It does have antibacterial and antifungal abilities. I use it all the time. However it will not cure anything. ACV works to change the PH of the body and this does not happen over night and can take months to do so. That is why it works better as a preventive. So in this case, these birds need immediate attention to which ACV will not work fast enough or possibly be powerful enough. When used, it is mixed 1 tablespoon per gallon of water for maintenance or 2 to 3 tablespoons per gallon of water for sick birds.
