Hi guys

i got a pullet here about 20-22 weeks now

which is about right time to lay

the comb is slightly more red than before and the legs getting paler

what i wanted to ask is does anyone have pictures or a utube video link to show me exactly how to check the pelvic opening of the hens please

Thanks

Just wondering why you would do that....What breed is she, do you know? 20 weeks is the average. Some breeds take longer, some a bit shorter, but one thing is for sure, she will lay when she's good and ready. ;)

it to make sure my hens are not sick or depressed in any way and will be happy layers

im not in a rush to get eggs as i have productive hens as well as POL pullets

btw they are Columbian Blacktails

here is a chart of what i was talking about and wanted to know

Trait Productive chicken Unproductive chicken
General condition lively dull
Weight good usually fairly light
Wattle and comb soft; bright red pale and rough
Eyes lively dull; yellow rims
Pigment (yellow breeds) disappears stays longer
Cloaca large, soft, moist shrivelled, dry
Distance between lay bones large (± 5 cm) small (± 2 cm)
Distance between breastbone and lay bones large (± 8 cm) small (± 4 cm)
Skin soft, loose thick, fat under the skin

Oh, Columbian blacktail sounds like a beautiful breed! Sounds like you take a more scientific approach to chickens. Very interesting chart!

I can't help with the exam you want to do but I wish you the best! I'm sure someone will come along that can help.

Take care and we would love to see some pics of that breed!

hi sharon

i think its an obsetion but i take a scientific and very nosy approch ti everythign

i like to know everything

right down to my kids when they where yound i used to calculate every calorie they took in

even shocked the dietition, she said your the first dad i know that actually calculated the calories in baby milk per bottle, she was impressed non the less :)

here are some pics of my pullets

3 columbian Blacktails, 1 Amber Star, 1 White Star, 1 Warren, 1 Speckledy

The Blacktails you could mistake them for hawks if they were smaller
