Hello All,
I need some help trying to figure out what would be the best size coop/run for my new chickies?
I have been designing on paper and have even staked and stringed the area I would like to place the coop. My question; what would be a decent size coop for four hens? (I'd have more, but our city has limits) I've drawn it out so the coop will sit 18"-20" above the ground plus, a place for the run for when we are not home. Not trusting the Big dog alone with the chicks. They'll have supervised free range everyday.
Any info would be greatly appreciated as these will be my first chicks....and can I tell you how excited I am!!!!

I would say about 16 square feet would be adequate for 4 hens when it comes to the coop. The run you could get by with another 40 square feet. The bigger the better when it comes to hens it seems.

Thanks Hokum Coco.
Looks like I've done some pretty good research as that's about the dimensions I have. I'll just make the run a bit bigger.
Look forward to posting pics.

The Purina coop would be good for four chickens and simple to build. Give them all the room in the run you can afford. And don't plan on any grass surviving in the run!
