Need help diagnosing with pic

try using a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and water. The wounds do need attention. after cleaning put vasoline or an antibiotic ointment to help keep out dirt.

Okay, I'll check for parasites and do the rubbing alcohol/water thing.

Thank you so very much for all your help and suggestions. I will update you with what I find.

Wynette nailed it I think. I would not rule out rodents though. I would get a skinny box and put a rat trap in it, inside of the coop. Can't hurt, and would eliminate that possibility. I wonder if Blukote would help. Seems some have healed/repelled others from pecking by using it. Calf-manna is high in protein and beans are a cheap source of protein too.

I went out this morning and couldn't get a good look at the affected birds. The ground is so frozen that I could not get the chicken run door to open so I could go in. Some hens came out the door of the chicken coop but ran all over the place (two of the affected birds would not come out). I got to briefly look at one bird, but she took off before I noticed anything. I chased them with a bottle of peroxide in my hand so I only had one hand to keep her from running away. I think I scared the heck out of my girls, so I'm giving them a break.

I did check the unaffected birds briefly and didn't see any signs of parasites. It was a very quick look though.
