i wasn't sure about using that word either but i was like "IJUSTWANNAGETTHISDAMNTHINGDONE" *bangs head on keyborad*

i'm bad at homework.

I would use the word young.

I think 'the young' would work, too.

Both of those poems are good. I watched the video, and it reminded me of my own grandmother who passed last year. I wish I had listened to her stories more when I was younger. I got to spend some time for work in a village down on Umnak Island in the Aleutians, and was "adopted" by the village elders... I'm still in awe of them, and the things that they continue to do even in their advanced age. They can still clean a salmon faster than anyone I know!
lol.png
What saddened me was the apathy that was settling in on the younger generations. The island is covered with feral cattle which they were welcome to harvest, but they were content to let the government fly in frozen meat to them because it was "easier". They get a barge with larger supplies maybe once a year... other than that, everything is flown in from Dutch Harbor. It was just sad... there were a few young families, very few children, and as soon as they were old enough the kids left the island for the mainland. There were only 35 people in the village when I was there in 2001... wonder what it's like now?

Well, I ramble... back to you.

that's so screwed up how there are wild cattle and nobody will hunt them. send me down there! honestly, i hate the taste of store bought beef. never been fond of it, but if it is wild cattle then i'm all for it!

my grandmother, when i see her cut fish i'm like
ep.gif
JEEZ sh'cheda (means grandmother in my language) , slow down! and she does "no, you go faster!" and laughs.

it is really messed up how the kids my age are. it's so bad that i'm ashamed of being in this age group. all of my female peers are either pregnant or have kids. all they want to do is drink and smoke pot while their grandparents are too old to do things for themselves. why don't the pick berries? or hunt? or fish? it bothers me. I'm always coming up the hil with at bunch of fish for my family.

and thanks for sharing! i've never really been oustide of the bristol bay region aside from occasional trips to anchorage or driving to Fairbanks from there. i really wish i had time to meet the locals in other areas.

lol, is she clumsy then? me and my girls fish too. were part NA and my one daughter who seems to carry the most native blood used to love to catch fish with her bare hands when she was little. I take it you are in highschool? Alaska needs a native governor maybe you should consider it as a goal.

BEST fishing ever down there... kids were catching 80 pound halibut from just off the shore!!

edited to add... OK, you can't exactly see the village in that shot. I'll have to find another. Note the HUGE satellite dish, though!

The school was falling apart, but they have satellite!!
