Think your idea or a mini door inside the man door is a good idea for ventilation.

It might be easier to add/make a second full size screen door covered in HC then cut and frame a door in a door.

Thanks and yeah that’s what my husband thinks also. That’s why I was looking for the picture so he could see what I was thinking. I’m pretty sure they didn’t frame in the door just sorta cut it out somehow? But we do keep coming back to the screen door idea. Thanks for your input!

Problem with that might be rain infiltration.

I agree.
Just cutting in a hole will make it a pain to reinstall during the winter.
Has to have a frame of some sort.

Might look a little different, but if ventilation is the main reason for the door, add a window towards the top of the door.

Thanks! I do have a fan that I put in the coop and they have plenty of access to shade and water stations. The fan just blows hot air. I could always rig up a frozen water bottle in front of it or something. I was just looking for ways to get more of a breeze through the coop.

Post pics of the rest of your coop, inside and out, showing what ventilation you do have.
There are probably other things to do in addition to a screen door.
