Need Help first egg

Hello I am new to chickens and new to the site. Today when I got home I let my hen and roo out to roam. While out she laid her first egg since ive had her. After she laid it she has been roaming around the yard and hasnt been back to the egg. My question is, can I pick it up and place it in the nest box and will she tend to the egg even though I moved it? Thanks

First of all I would keep her in the coop until she gets used to laying in the nesting box. What breed is she? Do you want her to hatch eggs? You cannot force a hen to go broody. Depending on the breed she may or may not be likely to go broody. I would just eat the egg unless you plan on collecting them and hatching them in an incubator. When you do have a broody they usually will accept any eggs you put under them.
