Need Help From Experienced Golden Pheasant Hatcher/ Incubation Ques.

Believe it or not,I don't have as many birds as I use to.At one time I had 37 pens, all measuring 6x12x6,and yes birds in every one and needed more pens.
Yes the impeyans are the same as himolayan monals. She has 4 eggs in her nest right now I am waiting for her to go broody. As I said in an earlier post I lost a lot of eggs from my crappy sportsmen.
I am in Seabrook, right on the Ma border, about 2 miles off from 95.
What part of th white mountains do you go to?My parents have a camp in Conway which I go to on occation.
I got my grey peacocks from Paul Kao in Ca.and Bob Bills in Oh.The prices on these birds are going crazy, and who knows why?
I do have a pair of 2008 hatch swinhoes for sale, they are unrelated and she has laid 12 eggs this year.I'm asking 100.00 for the pair.

That must have took some time to build 37 enclosures. I built the one for my goldens and two chicken ones. I designed the pheasant enclosure large so I could section it off for more birds down the road. (i think its about 20x30) . That was quite a project though. The nightmare was the posthole digger and the roof. I went with netting instead of wire so if they flush they will not scalp themselves. Anyway, I got it from a local lobster supply. It will last forever but it was hard to stretch and heavy! I will try to post a pic. It's a palace for the goldens. lol

I know exactly where Conway is! I love it over there. My parents have a place in Warren it's west more by Loon mtn ski resort. We take the Kankamangus over there to Conwy to go shopping quite a bit. It's gorgeous in the white mountains and it's relaxing to get away there!

Let me know if you salvage the rest of the breeding year- stupid incubators- I would be interested in impeyan, palawan, lewis silver, and amhersts. Do you have to heat any of these guys in the winter? I assume the impeyans and amhersts you don't.

My goldens started hatching last night (the 26th day) but all of them didn't make it out. I think I figured one of the problems. The eggs got wet from the cheesecloth bottom that my hatching book recommended that I put under the eggs. I noticed blood pooled in the egg where it touched the bottom. I'm getting rid of the cloth!

Here is a pic of my pens from this past winter. The only birds I have that require heat are the peacock pheasants, plus the caged birds.I put them in my basement for the winter months,it stays about 45 -50 degrees donw there.763_tony_059.jpg[/img]
The entire pen is 12'wide by 84' long and at the peak which is also their pen is 8' high.

That's pretty cool! Are there doors to go from one enclosure to another? Are there trees in there for cover or do u use fake stuff. I was tried finding a pic of my enclosure but my desktop pc is being uncooperative right now. Just like my hatching pheasants... they are not breaking through. Will they really break through in a running egg turner at 60% humidity and not get crushed? I have all the newer eggs in the turner in the circulated air but they wont be scheduled to hatch until the 6/5 or so. I don't know what to do anymore. i'm fed up. I think brody chickens work much better! lol

This is a pic from inside.Three of the pens have an off ground 4x6 and three more have an off ground 6x6,still using the full 6x12 of ground. Each pen has a xmas tree and is replaced each dec.
I have had better luck hatching with the eggs still in the turner.Never had one crushed by the tu
The roof pitch is also part of their enclosure using all of the space I can.

That's a great idea having upper areas to the pens that maximizes the space in each one. That's an idea if i seperate the pen and get more birds. My goldens would probably spend all the time in the upper one. lol I have perches all around so they can roost high up at night and a box for the winter and bad weather. I bought some clearance dwarf spruces and some other evergreens that i planted last summer but only 2 survived the winter. The pheasants did better than i thought this winter with all the snow and cold weather. I wasn't sure how hardy they were. They even roosted out in the open with sleet and ice forming on them instead of using their specially made box (which figures). Their pen totally open to the elements.

Hi Everyone! I wanted to share the good news. I've had my first successful hatch 11 golden chicks! The new circulated air incubator has done wonders and I'm hatching them in the turner and thats working great too. My hatch rate is 90% now! And wouldn't you know it, one of my females decided she would get broody and actually sit a nest...lol Many thanks for all the good advice! I'm going to post a pic on here soon of my chicks.

Tony, I was wondering how your season was going and still keep me in mind for the amhersts and impeyans. I'm going to start working on sectioning my pens

Congratulations on your hatch, I hatched 9/10 in my LG still inc two weeks ago. My older hen is sitting on 7 eggs now and the younger hen is still laying (8 so far). I love the red goldens and now have 16 melanistic ringnecks in the incubator. HAnd turning them. Bought off ebay so hope everything turns it out great. Really need to get strated on some more pens.

Awesome

I hope that hatch goes well for you! Those melanistics are very pretty I was actually looking at a few pics of them online earlier today. I have two goldens and I'm kind of surprised that they are laying so far into June (it's my first breeding season) they started beginning to mid April. I've gotten about 6 dozen off of two females but lost everything but these last 2 doz b/c of my crappy incubator. I've got the chicks up for sale and I got such a overwhelming reponse that I think I'm selling them for too cheap or something. I'm going to keep the next 11 I have hatching in July and sell them after I pair them off. They are so cute! Are melanistics skittish and easily spooked?

Not a good season for me hatching. My bator crapped out so I had to buy a new one.I lost about 10 dozen eggs, impeyans, swinhoe, eliots, lewis silvers, brown eared, blue eared, grey peacock and amherst. My 1st hatch in the new bator was not very good either.I do have a few red goldens, blue eared and yellow goldens, but not much more.Hopefully the next few hatches will go better.
