So long story short a lady found two of these in her yard today. One was dead and this one running around missing feathers on its back
I ended up taking this bird in as there are no rescues open or willing to take it. I believe it is a quail, but don’t know anything about them really. I have only ever had chickens and that was 10 years ago now.
any advice would be appreciated

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, it's a quail. Japanese quail by the looks of it. They probably escaped their home and got attacked by something. I have two rescue quails that were found wondering. Have you offered the quail some water. It's probably dehydrated. Do you have any food you could offer it? What are you currently detaining the quail in? Are you planning to keep this quail? If so, it will eventually need some friends.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask :)

Hello,
So long story short I contacted a local breeder to ask about the quail and if she had any friends available and food.
Turns out two of hers had escaped! I had one of them. So she came to pick him up.

I will be bringing home three new friends next Tuesday!

thank you both so much for your help!
