Yesterday I acquired a 10 week old and what appears to be a five week old. They are not interested in roaming around their pen, they are just wanting to sit in my lap. For hours! Is this normal behavior for newly transplanted chickens? This docile behavior worried me a little because it was so different from what I had experienced before, but maybe it is normal in this type of situation? It made me worried they were sick.

They came from two different homes. probably the older one was treated like a pet, but the other previous owner had a lot of chickens so probably was not treated like a pet.

I had a polish chick did exactly what you described, and would curl up in my hand or lap and fall asleep while I read a book or sat on the couch and I thought it was adorable however that chick ended up passing away, because these were symptoms of sickness. On the other hand i just recently got a silkie chick (about a month th old) and after a lot of socialization, she now jumps on my knee and hangs in my lap, and she is perfectly healthy! Truly they are probably perfectly healthy babies, but if they close their eyes a lot or their head droops and they seem sleepy alot, then I might be worried, and possibly take them to a vet. Hope this helped :)

If the older one was a pet and so behaving normally. Then the younger is probably following it's lead. Plus they are still young birds and your lap will be nice and warm. If you've observed them eating and drinking, I'm sure all is good.

Yes thank you for the advice! I don’t know of a poultry doctor around here, But I will cross my fingers I don’t have to try to search for one

My chickens have been house pets, and since I raised them even my black australorps do this. They are almost 5 weeks now. Chicks from what I have seen very much are monkey see monkey do if the head chicken or bigger chick does it then the younger will want too. My silkies jump into my lap and yes, would very much like to be pet for hours like a cat. When my black australorps saw the silkies at young age do this they wanted to join in. Soon I became the crazy chicken lady with a lap full of cuddly chicks and chickens. However, like Ella2710 said keep an eye out for weird behaviors. Such as like lethargicness, not showing interest in food or water, lack of droppings, coughing, or other signs of illness specially if you just got them.

Oh I know when my kids and husband see this every time they can't help but laugh as they look like they are trying to squash each other trying to get the closest to me lol they even try to push the adults out of the way it is super funny
