The best breed is a silkie. They lay about 6 eggs and set!!!

After them, I guess the cochin. After that, I guess would be any heritage breed like Rhode Island Red, etc.

The ISA Browns started out as a sex link chicken developed for egg laying, not setting. The broody instinct may be bred out of the bloodlines you have. I found some interesting info on them. They breed true. They are a cross from a Rhode Island White and a Rhode Island Red, but when breed ISA to ISA, they produce ISA.

I have sex links that go broody, but not too often. I usually have around 5 out of a hundred that go broody. And those 5 pretty much stay broody.

Hope this helps you. I'm sure someone will post with more breeds that are broody types.

Buff orps set well too when given the opportunity. Any production strain will probably not set but there are always exceptions... I have a sexlink that gets the broody bug once a year.
