I added light from 5 am - 8 am, but I have power. Getting an average of 11 eggs daily from 12 birds at this time.
If not I would have used the solar units hardware stores sell that give a low wattage. You can aim the collector out the window if you are south-facing, or they can be rigged outdoors and you run a wire into the coop.
