crossing my fingers for you. If she made it through the night, that's a good sign.

So glad to hear she's acting mostly like herself - that's really key in thes traumatic injuries. I have to agree with most of the posters here, chickens are amazingly resilient, and unless it is obviously a lost cause where there is organ involvement, it's usually worth at least trying to save them. I've had a few instances of the skin-gone predator attack on my flock, and they always end up pulling through. The skin doesn't come back, but the bald areas are usually pretty well covered by feathers anyway. I used powdered sulfur on the wounds (dries them and is antibiotic), but non-pain neosporin or other such things should work fine, too. The raid pupil dilation & shrinkage is something they do under stress. You can observe it the next time you have to chase & catch one! Good luck with your girl - it seems like she's in real good hands.

Try using a product called Blu-kote. It is a germacide and fungicide and will help dry up and prevent any puss or infection. It is available at any feed store and is labeled for horses and dogs but it works great on chickens too. I used it on my Brahma that was bleeding from her neck. The blue color kept the other chickens from pecking at that area and she healed up really quick. I will always keep a can of blu-kote on hand for any injury.
Glad she is recovering nicely. Sounds like she is on the road to a full recovery. We are all pulling for her here.

I've read to apply neosporin on an injury, but how can you apply it on?? We tried, but too hard with the open sore and feathers, and know we missed some places. We got a spray from the feed store, "Vetericyn" and it worked great!! We sprayed our hen morning and evening for 2 wks. Only problem--the cost $30!!! I wonder if you could use water and something else mixed together as a spray?? Someone said peroxide was too strong to use, more than for the first time.
Also, I was wondering if you could feed whey protein powder, for added protein?? I fed our hen some protein powder in yogurt, and also gave her scrambled egg.

I don't know of anything else that you could use that you could mix with water.
You could try buying blue kote...it's cheaper and works well also. Plus, it stops the others from pecking at the wound.
