Hi everyone, I have 2 white males, 1 blue male, 2 "oaten" ( BS cameo) hens...I need to get more hens and was wondering what to cross with my whites to get pied? and WHAT WILL I GET FROM THE "OATENS" crossed with white or blue? Trying to figure out what color hens to get and if I should keep the "oaten" (BS cameos) ? any info. on what to cross my whites with to get pied & whites would be a HUGE help. I know white x white = white. Would a BS male crossed with "oaten" produce all BS or BS & "oaten" ? sorry so many questions. But I LOVE my whites and want to breed to get white, pied & black shoulder. Thanks for the help.

Yes, I know it is a sex link color ( I'm way better at horse genetic colors, just learning bird genetics) so being a sex link color breeding back to the BS should give me black shoulders..correct? or am I way off base. Thanks

Pied is a pattern in peafowl consisting of one white gene derived from one parent and one pied gene, derived from the other.Your white male got two white genes and can contribute one, satisfying 50% ( one) requirement. Unless your oaten hen is split to pied ( carrying a pied gene ), your chances of getting a pied chick are "0" . There is no way of speculating whether or not she is split to pied unless any of this oaten hen's parents are pied or split to pied. Crossing oaten hens to white male produce Indiablue split white , split black shoulder split cameo chicks. most of them will be male chicks, and also Indiablue split white split blackshoulder female chicks Black shoulder male x oaten hen = Black shoulder split cameo male chicks and black shoulder female chicks.

Thanks Pedda, I'm discovering that horse color genetics are very similar to peafowl....hetrozygus, homozygus, single recessive, dbl. recessive etc. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INPUT :) it's greatly appreciated . I think I am going to sell the 2 Oaten/BS cameo and get a couple of pied hens for my whites & have no idea what to cross my male spaulding to ??? any suggestions as to what would make a good cross ???? maybe a green species and go for a "grab bag" of chicks LOL
