??Need Help!! (picture included)

This picture is of one of my chicks that is badly hurt. there are two like this but one is this bad and he/she is really swollen now right at the bump above the butt (pictured). Can anyone please tell

me why the chickens are pecking at their butts of theses two or what is wrong with them and how it can be stopped????

Could they have mites? I would put Vaseline on it and fashion some kind of cone or bandage so that they cant reach there buts. Are they pulling out there own feathers or is it the other chicks?

I believe the other are doing it and how do you tell if they have mites??

If you don't already have one, get a red bulb for your brooder lamp. It helps to prevent pecking. I would apply some bluecote to the area and separate the ones that are pecked and bloody from the others. I wouldn't put them back in until they are healed.

Does a red bulb really prevent pecking? I put one in my coop one very cold winter night, and the next morning one of my girls combs was pecked pretty badly.

its starting to not look as red and he/she is getting a little better
