From a safety stand point. No way would I lock a child in a room, or restrain him within that room, on the second floor of my home, when my bedroom is on the 1st floor. How would that child escape in the event of a fire in the home.
Temporary solutions----
Move his bed into your room, not real nice, but it for sure is safer than him wondering the house at night or being locked into his room with no chance of egress in the event of an emergency.
