The stage fright will be less if you do your research and know what you are talking about. Stick to a prepared speech, don't try to 'wing it' or do a Q&A, stick to your scrip.

Goosedragon- no one said it was mandatory to reply to my post. I don't appreciate negativity or accusations of laziness. I have been and will continue to do my own research, however by the book is sometimes much different than actual experiences and since I have none of my own and had this wonderful resource of experienced (and usually friendly) people on here I didn't see how it would be harmful to ask for advice.

I wasn't asking for information, just curious what actual duck owners who produce their own eggs feel the greatest benefits and most important info on raising ducks is.

Yes, I plan on being prepared (hence why I am collecting information one month in advance) and I know not to wing it (as I said, I HAVE taken public speaking course) and I am also NOT an idiot.

Replies are always welcome from those who speak to each other respectfully....thank you.

Custard Ice cream

1 qt. milk
1 1/2 tbsp. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 c. heavy cream

Heat milk in double boiler or over low heat in large pan. Add flour and salt sifted with half of sugar. Keep stirring constantly for about 8 minutes. Beat eggs and rest of sugar and add to mixture. Cook until custard coats the spoon. Remove quickly from heat and cool. If separates beat with egg beater.

When cool add vanilla and cream. Pour into ice cream freezer can, should now be 3/4 full. Put ice and salt around outside of can. Turn until ice cream forms and enjoy!

I like to add a cup of slivered almonds that have been fried until golden brown. Then give the ice cream a swirl of fudge sauce at the end.

Dear you did ask for input. I am sorry if I appear negative and you appeared lazy. Take this as a lesson on how to ask your questions to get the replys you want to receive. And I beg your pardon but you did ask for information and I did supply some. Sorry to have ruined your day.....~gd

We sell many our duck eggs through a local natural and organic store. The pekins we have tend to lay eggs that weigh 2.2 to 2.3 pounds per dozen.

Actually gd-
It did not ruin my day, I don't allow others that type of power over me.

I try to not think the worst of people right off the bat and give them the benefit. And yes, I suppose I should dissect every post to make sure it causes no prejudice, but as a full time mom, full time student and caring for all the animals- I rarely have the time and like to think better of people.
So sorry you thought I was trying to get you to do my research for me, even if I wanted to- I doubt I could quote you as a reputable source.

I think it's always good to compare info based on books to actual experiences and VERY MUCH appreciate all the insight I've gotten from all the other friendly and helpful members on this site. BYC members are the best! I do understand we've not met and you don't know me so I'd appreciate it if you would give me the benefit of the doubt in the future. I'm so glad others didn't jump to negative conclusions about me.

Ok, no more on this....research is coming along well, still not sure what points to leave out ..there's so much info. But I'm sure I am coming up with a strong presentation.
My 4wk olds are getting so beautiful- getting feathers in- I just can't wait to see how pretty my little gals will be!

I hate public speaking and doing my research helped when I knew more information then I needed I felt more confident. I did try and wing it once due to have 3 sick kids and boy did that time I blew it, so from then on I made sure to do more research then I really needed so I had way more information then I needed made me feel more confident about speaking I used note cards to help with possiable questions that people might ask so I could have the answers. ready. Good luck on the presentation and I wish I could get some ducks I still remember my mom's egg noodles when I was a kid. it was good loved brownies made with duck eggs so rich and sinful.

maralyn, i was wondering if you and goosedragon have some kinda history because i didnt read anything negative in her post about research etc. and was surprised to see you react in such a way. but as i asked, maybe there is some history there...

so, how did the presentation go? I find its always easier to talk about things we enjoy...

No history, perhaps I could have better worded my post. I just really didn't appreciate that she assumed I was asking you all to do the 'research' for me...and then said I would be nervous if I wasn't prepared (which is true, but beside the point). It's cool, we don't know each other so it's hard to really tell wording and voice, etc. Maybe I overreacted, reading it now it doesn't bother me so much but when I was seeking advice it wasn't very nice feeling attacked like that, maybe it was just the stress of school. I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding between the two of us. Sometimes we all need to watch not WHAT we say, but HOW it is said, since tone of voice and body language, etc are lacking...and then it's important to move on and try to not offend anyone or take things as offensively in the future and I need to remind myself that.
My presentation went well, I have 5 ppl interested in buying my duck eggs (but I only have 4 ducks and they're now only 8 wks old!) so I had to give them info on other local areas to get some. I made some chocolate chip cookies w/ chicken egg and some with duck egg to compare and mentioned the yummy custard icecream recipe columbiacritter was awesome enough to share with me. As always, nervousness got to me though, I always get shaky hands and sometimes voice but I was able to maintain composure. No matter how many speeches I do, I just can't get over it! lol It IS easier to talk about things we enjoy, and are knowledgeable about...which is why I appreciate the 'expert' advice on here to support my thoughts. Thanks for asking, that was sweet of you asking how it went.
