My daughter and I are looking to breed some birds. We currently have 2 pens. 1 for her show birds(bantams) and 1 for our egg layers. I would like to build a couple of other smaller pens to house the roo's ?? Can anyone help with some ideas for these guys? thank you very much.

I have 6 breeder pens for LF and they measure 5'w X 12'L X8'high and totally covered on all 4 sides, They work great but I only have trio's and quads in them now but they could handle 6 birds in a pinch without much problem, I like to give them alot of space.

To truly provide good advice I feel I need more information, it depends on a lot of factors.. what kind of birds, how many you want to keep.. inside vs. outside space of course.

I have SEVERAL coop pages here on BYC (Small, medium & large) just click View my BYC page under my avatar on the left.

I, like the previous poster, prefer to give as much room as possible and try to stick to 10sf each. Also because my chickens have to take turns ranging in the yard so not every coop gets out everyday... just a couple times per week. My designated breeding pens are 67sf and generally hold no more than 4 birds but can go up to 6 if needed. These are large Orpingtons

Dawn, I love your coop designs. Seems easy and cheap and does the job! Just what I'm looking for. I also love your chicken snack page! Very good job!
