I’m completely new. I don’t own any button quails yet but I want to know what to expect. Where should I get them? What food should I get for them? What should their enclosure look like? How much should I feed them? What’s the best way to get a pair to breed? What health concerns should I know about? How to handle raising the tiny baby’s? You know the basics. :) I’m in no hurry but where should I get them?

I don't have any experience with Buttons. I've raised Coturnix quail though. I know buttons don't handle cold very well (I would think they wouldn't thrive in temps below 40°F). I think where to get them depends on your location.

They need to be fed game bird starter for about five or six weeks, then game bird feed or a high protein (at least 20% All Fock type of feed, and supplement oyster shell on the side) after that.

I always plan on 1sq foot of space per bird or more of room in their enclosure. I'd imagine they flush like other quail, so you would want a ceiling no higher than about a foot or higher than 6 feet, or they can fly up into the ceiling and injure themselves (or worse.)

You can post in the Quail Forum for many more answers and expert opinions on quail.

Thank you, that’s very helpful

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Definitely follow the link to our Quail forum. Keep in mind Button Quail cannot tolerate super cold temps, they are more of a tropical species of quail. More suited for indoor keeping, however if you have a moderate climate they can do well outside too.

Best wishes with your Quail!
