Ok so it’s been over 24 hours and my chick has made very little progress. It’s not unzipping but it doesn’t seem weak, it makes noise and it moving but it seems to only want to just keep its head out of its hole. It also seems to try fit through the small hole it’s made. I have been reading and many say you should help and others say not to touch it. I don’t know what to do and I’m starting to really stress out

with where it's pipped it's possible it pipped away from the aircell, in which case it would take longer. but it's really hard to tell. I have assisted many chicks. It's really up to the person hatching whether they help or not. one question to ask yourself: would you feel worse leaving it and it dying or helping it and it dying?

not saying that it will die, or that it looks that bad, I've had plenty hatch on their own from a midshell pip. and this one doesn't look dried out or anything. What I mean is when it comes to deciding if you are someone who will help, or not.

sorry that was a bit off on my own thought process and probably not exactly what you were asking.

If this chick did not pip into the aircell first then it could be another 24 hours before it hatches. if it did pip into the aircell before pipping the shell, then assisting should be ok.

but as with all assisting be cautious and slow. the guide Sylvie share is really detailed, it's what I used the first few times I assisted. here's another one that's a little more straightforward in just the assisting part
