Need help with chickens

You see those spurs??!! The red looking roosters doesn't have those!
Well, for your flock size you'll only want one rooster. Roosters are pretty tasty so you can either eat extra ones or sell them.
You should remove his spurs though. There are certain ways to remove spurs which you can find by browsing the site.

It would be advantageous to build a run attached to the coop. That way you don't have to let them free range all the time. As for chasing them, it helps to have one or more helpers so you can slowly 'herd' them.
Ok! Thank you! My oldest son helps me but all he does is laughs the whole time. :)

Really?! I was always told it was like chewing on shoe leather. So that's nice to know!

We always eat our extra cocks (roosters) and older hens. Try roasting him with water underneath... kind of a slow steam/roast. If he is old he may be stringy, but most of the taste and texture is in how it's cooked.

The younger ones taste better but you can always cook older ones in a crock pot.
If you build a run then once you catch them you don't have to keep doing it. After they get used to being there, they will return to the coop on their own.
You might want to post in the other sections, this section is mostly just for yacking. But nobody really minds. You would likely get more responders though. Good luck. There is also a section on the main menu for other animals if you have pig issues.
Oh and welcome to BYC!
