We have coyotes all around here. And at the moment we also have a fox living in our sheep pasture.
Well we got a llama a few weeks ago. After letting him get used to his new home after a few days we walked him around the pasture. Stopping every so often.
When we came across the fox holes the llama sniffed and looked around. Then he roled around. He didn't role on all the holes, maybe 3 of the 8 that are out there. Anyway. The fox hasn't been back to those holes since then.
Now our llama is only about 6 months old. It is a Male intact llama. I don't know if they have a sent that the fox knows to be dangerous or what, but so far it has worked. As for the holes that the llama didn't role on some have been used others look like decoy holes the fox made.
I don't know if the llama roled on the holes because he knew that it was an animal that wasn't suppose to be there or if it was just a by chance rolling.
Either way so far I am happy, don't worry so much about the fox now.
I have also heard of geese taking down smaller animals...specially if they have babies.
Actually one of the geese we have here has killed a fox protecting her babies.
That was before we got her (at her old home).
They do become VERY protective. She actually was trying to get our dog today. We had 4 babies hatch out yesterday evening and the mom is very protective. She chased our dog (the great pyr./border collie mix). The dog wanted nothing to do with her or the babies, she just happened to be walking by at the wrong time....Well I dont' think she is going to be going anywhere remotely close to those babies anymore...
