Need help with daytime possum

I don't have a problem at all with a .22! I just have to catch it out first. And actually I've taken my Glock .40 out with me a couple of times! I know, overkill maybe, and it would have killed my ears if I would have had to shoot inside, but that's what I could grab quickly.

Possums will be out during the day, especially this time of year when they are trying to fatten up for winter, this isn't any sign that it's sick. One thing about them is they are actually pretty dumb and fairly easily killed with a club if you've go it trapped inside the coop--it'll just lay down and pretend it's dead if it can't escape.

Thanks, woodmort. That makes sense. I would, however, have more of a problem beating it than shooting it - but I'll do what I have to do. My chickies come first.
[An aside: Love the McCullough quote. I've shared it with my composition classes as I try to make the connection between critical thinking and writing.]

Bait with an egg only during the day, as baiting at night will draw in skunks. Be careful of some wary opossums. They don't always play dead, but will sometimes hiss and bare their teeth when scared. Shake the cage heartily and holler at it (pretending not to be afraid) and it may play dead for you to dispatch it. I

Yup, some stamp their feet and hiss at my dogs, but they seem relatively unconcerned about ME so I've not had any trouble with them. They are fairly dumb, and some have inadvertenly wandered into unbaited traps! lol
I've not had a possum "play possum" in the trap for me in years
