one of my 10 week old chicks, my favorite, has a distended crop. Its not too large yet. about the size of one of those blue handballs.
does not feel hard. its pliable and soft.
she is on chick starter
access to grit, starter and water 24/7
Been in the tractor with access to ground for about 2 weeks.
gets treats of banana, oats and eggs a couple times a week.
noticed enlarged crop two days ago...not any smaller, nor does it seem to be any bigger.
she is eating and drinking and playing in their wading pool . (temp here today was 100 degrees.)

Should I isolate her, remove food, give yogurt, water and oil???? monitor output and crop size???

Thanks

Take away their food overnight first. If it is smaller in the morning she's probably fine, just a pig. Is she pooping? If she is and eating, somethings going through. In the meantime, do a search on impacted crop and sour crop in case that's what it is. I had a hen with sour crop a few weeks ago I treated with apple cider vinegar, seemed to work pretty well. If you have any on hand, add a tablespoon per gallon to their drinking water. It'll be beneficial for them whether or not it's sour crop. Good luck!

UPDATE...... isolated chick,,,with holding food, providing water. tried a little yogurt but she did not like it. going to give her a little bread crumbs soaked in veggie oil tonight. she still does not seem to be in distress. crop is the same, no change yet..
