Sounds like he probably caught a claw on something and tore it out. I've had this happen once with one of my ducks. Make sure you've cleaned it good and disinfect it. Then smear a small amount of antibiotic ointment on it (make sure it is the type WITHOUT pain killer in it). Since they do walk in poo and mud and all kinds of stuff, I'd clean and treat it daily until it isn't an open wound any longer just to be sure it doesn't get infected. We've had our first catastrophe!! Needing some advice. This morning I woke up to drops of blood all over the inside of the coop. I pulled him out and checked him all over, and I found that his left foot had a claw that was ripped off or somehow gone, and was bloody. I am freaking out about this!!!! I worked late last night so Cody was in the hands of hubby and my son. But all three of us are extremely careful with him!! We watch him every second when he's loose in the house. We handle him most of the day when we're home and we are very very gentle. He does sometimes knock into things in the house when he flies around. Also the "coop" he's in is actually a dog crate so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Anyway, I'm so worried about infection!!! He'd stepped in his droppings since it had been all night so I changed out all his towels and soaked his foot in clean water. Then I dabbed the bloody spot with rubbing alcohol. I will be calling a vet in the morning. Have any of you dealt with anything like this?
