Need help with my chicken eggs

I've been raising 8 chickens for the past 4-5 months and I noticed that when I take their eggs and boil them, the shells don't come off very easily. In other words, the shell will come off in tiny little pieces and it becomes an extreme hassle to peal the shell.

I'm pouring the boiled eggs in cold water right after they've been cooked. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Any suggestions or tips.

Thank you!

Fresh eggs are a pain. We use the ones that have been around a while. The older they are, the more moisture they lose, making the inside shrink and pealing easier. At least that's what I've heard. Seems to be true.

Hi azelgin,

Thanks for your response. I left the eggs in the fridge for 2 weeks and they were still a pain to peal after I boiled them. Any advice on what I could do?

The wife says she uses ice water for cooling right away. Helps a lot. Other than that, just the older the better.

This is what I do: Bring pot of water to a boil. Spoon the eggs in carefully. Boil for 14 to 15 mins. Drain and shake the pot with the eggs in it so the eggs will crack. Then fill with cod water and a handful of ice. Eggs will peel like store bought ones, I never had a problem. I boiled 26 eggs for stuffed eggs and only had problems with one. This method works like a charm!
