Ok heres my problem. I have know our neighbors for years. never had a big problem with them till we moved next to them. Now they are driving me crazy. They are farmers thats land surrounds our house. (were like a island in the middle of there land). I am very grateful that they plow our drive for us but not so happy about the rest. We have a small field that we cant mow. But we like the overgrown look. its on a big hill with trees and looks like a prairie. But Bob thinks it looks trashy so he came over and mowed it!! Its my yard!! And the last time i talked to him he was talking about cutting down my trees!!! how do i make he stop without making him mad? And no way is he cutting down my trees. But i need him to plow still. And just to give a picture of how they can be. his wife tried to get my bother kicked out of Vacation Bible School because she thought his hair was to long. Hello Jesus had long hair!!! Ugh. I know im going to sound grumpy but im not giving him gas money nor am i fixing any thing on his tractor if it brakes on my yard. i dont want him to mow it!! I need to talk to him tonight. should i just call him or go over there? I hate doing this sort of thing.

Are you renting from them or do you actually own the land? We rent farmer's land and he basically can do whatever he wants to it even though we needed more area to graze our horses he planted a field there and since he owns it we can't do anything about it.

over FRIENDLY????? The vacation bible school thing doesn't sound very friendly

Sorry you are dealing with this. Ask them nicely to leave your land alone and find some other way to plow etc.

well tell them altough you are neighbors, it would be appreciated if you could keep your property they way you like, and express your own uniquness through it. You appreciate the gester but, it is you land and it should be accepted the way you like it. As for his wife one simple thing to say: He who is without sin, cast the first stone. Why should she judge when her herself can be critized aswell. Good luck!

Perhaps your property was severed from theirs and used to be in their family, giving them sort of a history of vested interest in it. Even if not, some people just have a ton of trouble believing that others could seriously have different aesthetic preferences.

I think you may have to choose between convenient driveway plowing and your trees and tall grasses. If it were me I would bake a nice pie or something like that and go over (calling first or not depends on local custom) and be very nice and ingratiating while also ABSOLUTELY FIRM about ABSOLUTELY NO messin' with the trees or mowing. Remember you don't have to give reasons -- "well, we're just funny like that, but it's really important to us" is sometimes safer.

They may still get ticked off at you and make your life difficult, but it will prolly be shorter-lasting than if you did not employ pie and friendliness

Good luck,

Oh, man! Been there, done that, had to move!
I loved my neighbors, too, until they tried to run my life and I am just too pig headed for that. I know they meant well but every time I tried to talk to them about it I must have sounded like a whiner and they always got mad at me. So I had to move. We were much better friends after that.

There is no easy solution. I will pray for you and hope you find a wonderful way to get through to them. Maybe they will be more reasonable to talk to than my neighbors were. All you can do is try. Good luck!

We own the land. Hes trying to help us since we can't afford a tractor. But if i gonna free range my flock i dont want them run over.(or my cats or dogs) The thing is that when the land was for sale we got it instead of them and he mowed the whole thing not letting anyone know (Realtor or the bank). The reason his doing it too i think is that he doesnt want any one to think he owns a overgrown field.
