need help with rescue hen

I have an update on this hen. Even though I felt that I was doing the wrong thing I let my other friends talk me into letting her live. She is making a sweet pet. She sleeps in the fish room where the floor is concrete. In the morning I open the back door and she walks outside where she spends the day. I can't put her with the rest of the flock because the roosters consider her a target.

Yesterday she was acting a bit strange. She didn't want to go outside and after I nudged her out she kept on walking back in. I didn't think much of it, but last night when I went to check on the fish for the last time and turn off the lights I saw that she had laid an egg!!! It wasn't an intact egg. It was just a pretty yoke. I was blown away. I guess I'd better go back to feeding her laying pellets and make oyster shell available to her.

I took this pic a couple of weeks ago. I hate to have to eat her, but if she's going to get sick and die she would be a good chicken to learn how on. I've got all the stuff except for the big pot to dip her in to loosen the feathers because I had planned on slaughtering excess roosters. But I have a tender heart and have not yet built up the nerve to actually do it.View attachment 1689441

she's beautiful!!!!!! Reminds me of my Lilly that passed last winter. Big birds LOL

I volunteer sometimes at a farm animal rescue and they have a flock of Cornish cross that they keep. They do very well! They do ration their feed to keep them at a healthy weight. They definitely won't live as long as other chickens but they can have a good life. Thank you for saving her and giving her a chance!
