I have a 7 foot tall run, but have not put a top on yet. I am to the point now that I probably will not unless I have a problem. We have both coopers hawks and sparrow hawks that have been hanging around the last couple years and I still have yet to have an issue. We also have practically every other predator near enough, but the coop is extremely secure and of course locked at night. I have caught raccoons in the run at night even but the coop is so secure they will never get in. Never any problems during the day. I have had this set up for two years now.
I am sure most would advise against my set-up, and to be certain that you are 100% secure they would be right.....but it works for me and we dont want to spend the money to cover an 800 sq.ft. run if there is no need.
All the predators that are real issues are nocturnal unless you live in bear and mountain lion country. So if your coop is really secure, your fine
