I am sorry to hear about your maran eggs, I think you should try again.
I lived in central TX, humidity is high, I used LG air still incubator with automatic turner
Last month was the first time I hatched baby chickens and I got 20 babies from 30
for 18 days I used very little water, only 1 tbsp (when with lilttle water the humidity around 30-40%) and the last 3 days I put water and sponge and the humidity jump to 85% sometime reach 90%, but the temp I keep in 100F-101F
few weeks ago i put another 42 eggs with the same method then we went for vacation for 2 weeks, when i came back I candled them and all 41 egss had babies, only 1 infertile.
As I type this post, 25 babies just hatched, I think it;s good, more than 50% hatched
I didn;t buy eggs, I had few hens
Anyway I just want you to try the dry method, I read from one guy on the internet, I forgot his name but i think he also member of this site
I had luck follow his method considering I just started last moth
