With sheep that age we bottle feed about 6 oz 5 times a day... gradually increasing the amount at the feeding, and decreasing the number of feedings. They usually drink more first thing in the morning and less at later feedings.

Edit: That’s with straight bottle babies... it’s good that mama went 3 weeks, they got the colostrum and lots of antibodies from her at first. Watch her closely for mastitis!

I was a little confusing there... over the course of several weeks as they transition to grass and hay and develop we increase the amount and decrease the feedings... (I re-read my post and realized it sounded like we increase the amount every feeding, which we don’t!)

Be persistent... and patient. Try dribbling a bit on her nose and wiggling it right by her mouth. Sometimes you have to hold them, and keep the angle pretty high. You might need to stick the nipple in her mouth the first few times. How long has she been dry? Do you know when the last time baby drank was?

First, it is highly unusual for a mama goat to just run out of milk like that. I suspect that you are worrying a lot because you don't see the does udder "bagged up" due to the kid drinking the milk frequently. This is common and is normal. What leads you to believe the mom ran out of milk to begin with?

We can go over feeding amounts based on weight of the goat kid after we figure out the does milk situation. My advice is to put this kid back on Mama and let nature take its course, unless there is a real reason not to. I'm just not convinced that the doe has suddenly and completely dried up 3 weeks into lactation.

no but we think it was some time yesterday becuase the baby has only started trying to drink off the mama and the mama not letting her to day
