need help!

I bought my sons three Ameraucana chickens. They are loosing the feathers around their tail. Also I noticed a few feathers missing under the neck. Looked for mites yesterday but did not see any. They graze in the backyard all day and have fresh water. I am feeding them Grainlands Select Natural Feeds. Thanks.

They might be going through a molt

Thanks. They are about four months old and we live in the south Louisiana, hot and humid. Is the molting normal for this time of the year or their age?

4 months seems to young to molt. as far as molting it just depends on each bird I have some that molted earlier this spring I have some molt at of August and some at worse time of the year right middle of winter.

Young birds will have "mini molts" but also other chickens will pull their feathers out and eat them. Just make sure they have plenty of protein in their feed--20% until they start to lay.
