Need Ideas.. Duck Houses

Hey, yours is great too! But how patient are your ducks about waiting until 8? My ducks' house is maybe just a little bigger than yours, and they start quacking about 7:00 and I jump out of bed to let them out so they'll shut up -- I don't need the neighbors complaining. They don't want any part of it at night, but I know we have raccoons so I'm too scared to leave them out.

I love your house, I wish mine was a bit more enclosed and cute.
I only feed them at night so they know the house is where they get food at and will follow the food right in. I'm always so proud and suprised with them if I get home after dark and they are all sleeping inside. I guess they have always been put up since they were ducklings so they just think it's normal routine. As for being let out in the mornings there aren't any neighbors near by that could hear them quack and even my house is far enough away I can hear them fuss from inside. They usually will stay quiet and lay around till they see someone outside and then they quack and carry on until you let them out. It's funny when they all try to jam out the 12"x12" door at once lol.

Well Im convinced now - I will be showing my hubby these awesome duck houses and I will attempt making them one, though it will not be as awesome as these.. Pics to come soon..

These are such lovely duck houses! Keep them coming. We don't have a "house" yet since my two are stil young that they have been inside until this morning (now they are in garage). I have duckhouse envy. We are still trying to figure out how we will house them!

Mine have a huge place to sleep, yet they prefer to make me corral them in, which would be funny except for it is muddy and takes forever.
So, some nights I don't bother, they just have to sleep the puddles that currently resemble small lakes. They have access to indoors.....stupid ducks. LOL:he

Here is the inside of my duck house

Pekins live here

Runners live on the other side of the fenc ein the same room.

The hallway was for Elliot & Gemini but they jumped the gate coz they wanted to be big ducks. So either my Holderreads order or the geese will go and live in here or the other empty room.

I still have mats to put down in here yet.. and can make 2 pens in here

I found a duck house on Craigslist!!!!!! It read:

Large Dog house ...FREE with 3 gates, must load yourself

So I called the guy and he said its real big other ppl that saw it, said Nope they cant take it, not even free....I said Can I load it with another female? He says no, its heavy takes 4 guys...I said ok, Im coming to see it...OMG!!!! BINGO, JACKPOT....VEGAS HERE I COME...ITS H.U.G.E for a dog house, he helped us tip it on the edge of the truck and load it and we got 3 gates I can use for other things, like my flocks...etc.....

Now I just have to fix some very minor things on the dog house, Im 4'9" and the house comes up to my shoulders almost!!!!!

Think its like almost the say across in length as me.....

My ducks live with my chickens and guineas. We built a coop out of recycled pallets and other trash, er, um, stuff we found used from various places. Here are pictures of us building it: https://picasaweb.google.com/tgperg/ChickenCoop#
Here
are pictures of us moving it when I realized, no, I'm not really funky enough to have the chicken coop in my front yard: https://picasaweb.google.com/tgperg/CoopMoving#
And
here's the pictures of the modifications I made when we got ducks and I started planning for broody hens: https://picasaweb.google.com/tgperg/NewNestingAreas#

Here is my setup. 2 pine garden sheds with an enclosed run joining the two. There is a small door cut into the side of each one with a ramp for entry into the pen. Coyotes, hawks and raccoons lurking.

And this is what we call "The Cottage". It was made from the large, bomb proof dog house that my dad made for my Akbash. Double walled and insulated....when my dog was put to sleep, I couldn't let this structure go to waste. It was the square on the right of the cottage. Added a roof, some siding and the little pen to the side. Cut a small opening in the side of the dog house for pen entry. And Voila! Secure housing for small ducks or juvenile chickens.
