Need ideas for 100 Degree Plus Days

We also soak the runs with water every evening (ours are pastured on grass in 10 x 10 kennels with tarp roof) to provide moisture during the next day & also use frozen RECYCLED 1 liter WATER bottles - they are small enough to freeze easily & the rabbits & hens lay all over them. Nothing very different from what you all do except we try to recycle at the same time.

I've used a mister in their tractor, when they're freeranging I just make sure the lots of fresh water out. I never put them in their coop til it's dark, and I sometimes water right around the coop to get the old evap cooling going. I did just put an old pie pan out full of crushed ice, they loved it! just like a popsicle party!!!

QUICK, PACK UP AND MOVE HERE TO WASHINGTON STATE. IT IS RAINING! LOL~ Just having fun. How about water with a sprinkler the coops and roofs of the coop? I do it here when it reaches a whooping 80 degrees.Good luck!

In case anyone else's birds are, well, chicken, I wanted to say that it did take mine a day or two to get used to the ice water pan and frozen 2-liter bottle. Don't give up too soon or your chicks will miss out. Thanks as always for the good ideas, BYC!

Which city in OK, I ask b/c I'm from OK (Henryetta) and am waiting on my first chickens. I called the city first and got a very noncommitted answer, something like, well there is no law but if your neighbors complain then there will be a problem. I specifically did not get a rooster b/c not sure how much noise to expect, but understand the males are quite a bit more vocal.

I bought a mist system for $ 15.00 that hooked to a garden hose It took at list 18 degree around the chicken run .
It was so nice that I set a chair for my self there and enjoyed the out doors with the chickens.

My secret, clynlarson. I was doing stucco for many years in the south FL sun. To get me through the hottest part of the day I would merely take asperin. So I recommend disolving 1 asperin per gallon of your fowls drinking water for really hot days. Works for me. If you get really hot, it will work for you, too..........Pop
