I've nearly completed a double decker quail hutch. Each is 2ft wide x 6 ft long. I've designed them to have plastic trays under the hardware cloth floors to catch the...well you know. I've searched everywhere for plastic lids, the kind that would fit large storage bins. On-line and in stores I can't find any without having to buy the bins as well. I don't want to spend more on the catch pans than I spent on the entire hutch. I even posted an "items wanted" on Craigs list with no responses. Any ideas for cheap catch pans that aren't too heavy and are easy to clean?

TSC sells plastic dog kennel "liners" that work well. That's what I used for under my peachicks' cage. If you don't live near a TSC, try a home improvement store (Lowe's, Home Depot) and look in the appliance section for the trays that you set under washing machines.

Menards has 12"x 24"x 2" plant flats for $ .99 each in their gardening department. I have some 2' X 8' and/or 2' x 16' coop areas that I'm putting these flats in as drop pans. I put one in front and one behind a roost made from a two-foot 4"x 4" with a 2"x 4" stacked on top of it, making it 6" high over the 2" high flats behind and in front of the roost.

Edit: BTW, I just sprinkled some DE in each tray under and over some wood shavings; makes for easy cleanout.

I'm actually using a scrap piece of galvanized metal roofing at the moment- yes, it is wavy shaped which is funny, but it hoses off quite well and I already had it so I didn't have to buy anything. gotta love using stuff for things that aren't their original intended purpose! (my mother used to get so frustrated with me for that!)

Your local autozone or advance discount auto parts carry large "oil catch pans" not the ones used for changing motor oil! These are only 1/2 inch tall. say 24-26 inches wide and 34-36 inches long. They are designed to place on your garage floor under the car and catch any slow oil leaks before in can get onto the floor and stain.. They're about 9-10 bucks each and galvanized metal..
