Need ideas for grease waste disposal

Yes, I know it is alot of grease being dumped in the sewer lines however rest assured, I know better than pouring grease in the drain. However, I know my neighborhood is alot of older folks, so they do dump grease down the drains and it's all over the city and as years go by, it would accumulate over time and some areas only have an inch opening. It cost the city thousands of dollars to unclog the grease out of the sewer lines.

The sewer lines from my house to major sewer lines are very good as quoted from the sewer folks that has been inspecting the lines all over town. He told me the worse offenders were the low income folks which they do use alot of frying oil, shortening, etc. for their cooking. So it is easier for them to dump it down the drain.

We dont use alot of oil, drippings and shortening in our household. We do grill and bake and boil alot of our food. Rarely fried, be lucky to fry foods maybe once or twice a month when I have a hankering for REAL fried chicken!

Bacon drippings are saved but I can only use so much before I have to discard the cup it was settled in the refigerated.

All in all, I wanted to our sewer lines a bit cleaner and do my part as a citizen to help the city out as well. I usually use bleach once a week for every drain pipes going out, from toliet, sinks and right down to the storm drain down the basement.

We drink out of the disposable cups you can buy at Sam's. IF I don't have an empty coffee can or peanut butter jar I pour the grease in one of those cups and shove a wad of paper towels in the top and put them in the trash. We don't use much grease at all so this works for us.

I save the leftover grease from bacon in a strainer cup made just for that. If it gets too full, I make a batch of suet for the chickens! It keeps well in the freezer and they love it in the winter.
The dogs often get to "pre-wash" the pans, keeping the drippings from going down the drain. We're on a septic tank, so no grease, no bleach, no food scraps, etc.

I pour oil or grease on my firewood stack. Keeps out the termites and burns well. We don't have a wood fireplace, so this is for outside burning only.

Also, I pour it on the cross ties in my garden to keep them from rotting. Could be used on fence posts too.
