Need info on the ramp design

Thanks. Will go for a wide, 8-10 inch ramp. How about rung size and spacing (for large chickens)?

The purpose of the cleats is to improve traction. Any old pieces of scrap wood are fine and you can just eyeball the spacing. Somewhere between half an chicken and a chicken apart?

Thanks, that’s a good idea. I am still thinking about how to make the ramp. Looks like ckeats anywhere from 3/4” to 1” high and 1-2” wide spacing 4-6” apart is a rule of thumb.

Thanks for info. Are rungs 1”(3/4) tall and 2” (1 3/4“ ) wide while 12” long?
Yes. I think I spaced them 5-6" apart. I had wider spacing, but I noticed the chickens feet slipping backward due to ramp angle - so I took them off and made them closer together. If you need to see the ramp there are pics in my coop build

Thanks a lot. Wow, this is the first time I hear about the ramp w/o slats. I like that design. I think my angle will be less than 30 deg, likley between 20 and 25. I have some pine planks, will connect two to make 8“ wide ramp. Can I apply the protective stain on it, as I did on the same type planks on the coop?

I would stain rather than paint. Paint peels and they will eat it. Make sure your stain cures for a couple weeks before installing it in the run.
