Need more nest boxes???

I have 10 hens and 4 boxes. They use three. I have seen them trying to use the same nest while one nest I empty. When i collect the eggs most will be in the same nest. I'm going to say three birds per nest is a safe bet but five per nest wouldn't be out of the question.

I've had 5 nests for up to 25 and never a problem. Sometimes 1 box would be empty and I would get 20 eggs. I'm down to 22 with 5 nests now.

I have 3 boxes for 11 birds, though 4 are still non-laying pullets and 2 hens are retired, so they don't count into the total, even if they like to nest lounge a bit.
