I need help. Looking for a Breeder for dual purpose birds. The breeders I have use over the last 20 years have grown old and no longer breed chickens. I have always kept barred rocks and buckeyes. I lost my flock due to a lightning strike that burned my barn. Birds must be able to hatch and raise their own clutch. And have good meat and egg qualities.

I’m in Ohio. Willing to drive or pay to have shipped. I don’t have an incubator. And straight runs are fine with me.

i will check it out. Thank you. This ordeal has been rough. I lost 25 amazing chickens, 6 turkeys, rabbits, pigs and sheep in the barn fire. Never thought in a million years lightning would have hit my barn.

I'm sorry to hear about the complete loss of your flock and barn!
We have purchased chicks from Eagle Nest Poultry in Oceola, OH. This is relatively close to Mansfield and I-71, North of Columbus, South of Cleveland. All have been very healthy chickens. The owners are on site, and hatchery has been in business for around 100 years. Helpful if you call them. They have many kinds of poultry - many are "exhibition quality" (not all), but prices are very reasonable (for example meat chickens range from $1.12 - $1.40 each and many chickens range in price from $0.65 - $2.12) They sell bantams for $2.25 each (all exhibition Q), Ducks ($2.50-3.50, with extra $1 fee for sexing), Turkeys ($4.25 - 6.00), Geese ($6.00 - $25.00), Ring-neck Pheasant ($1.50), and Pearl Gunea ($3.25). We have a Black Australorp from them that has been an amazing momma hen. Of course, she goes broody pretty regularly. The other two BA from ENP have never been broody, and neither have any of the other breeds we have gotten from them. Their meat chickens are very tasty, large, and stayed healthy and mobile till butcher date. Here is their website:

They have been helpful when I have called and had questions, etc. And were able to fill a last minute change of order for me in February.
Of course, there is Meyer hatchery as well - a big and diverse hatchery. They are in the Cleveland area. We have gotten a few birds from them, and still have 2. Nice birds, good layers. Cheapest way to go there is to go there to pick the "extra" chicks out of their extra chicks bin. They won't tell you what breeds they are in the extra bin, but they do have an online chicken ID tool so that is nearly as good.
Mt Healthy hatchery is in the Cincinnati area (within the 275 loop), on the north side. I've never used them, in part because they have had at least one salmonella outbreak linked directly to them, and they are no closer to me than another hatchery.

I’m in NWI and we are looking to downsize on our laying hens. We have a pair of barred rock hens and a buff Orpington hen that could be rehomed. They are just over a year old.
