need only 5 chicks

Most feed stores have minimum of 6....at least here in MI. I found a way around that! When I see that "special" one or two or three....I tell them I just bought some the other day and lost two and they are more than happy to let me just get that many. One time they gave me two for free, I felt bad and tried to pay but I justified it because I really did lose one.

We just got our chicks from chickensforbackyards.com, and I've been very happy. I like that they let you order as few as 3, and they can be selected from any breed (no breed minimum), however shipping is pricey.
As chicken math would have it, we originally planned on 3, but after exploring all the wonderful chicken breeds, we ordered 6. I'm glad we did, as unfortunately one died after 2 days.
The company's customer service has been great though. They have had great communication, and offered to refund for the lost chick.

We love our little chicks, and if the threads about gender and feathering are accurate, it looks like we have 5 girls (fingers crossed).

thanks everyone, I found a couple sites that will ship just 5. In the area I live, it would be a full time job to find somone else who wants 5 chicks. The local farm only sells them at 2 weeks after the schools give them back and will not sex them. anyone heard of cackle farms or purely poultry?
