I secured three different places to purchase layer feed. I would like your opinion on what the best options are.

Option 1 local feed mill. They have a mash for $9, Crumble for $13.55 and a peller for 13.70
Southern States has a crumble for 13.10 and a pellet for 13.30
TSC has a pellet for 12.79

I have fed crumbles and pellets but never mash. Any words of wisdom? With the price of feed rising I would like to get the most bang for my buck. I think pellets are the least amount of waste but do I need to feed grit?

Thanks

Unless that mash is particularly chunky you won't need grit with any of it.

I'd try the $9.00 mash first and see how they do with it. If there's a lot of waste try the crumbles.

If you feed scratch or anything you yourself would need to chew with your teeth then they'll need grit.

So I put the feed in a feeder along with a waterer. Then put grit in a seperate feeder or just a cup or something. I would assume they dont need that much.

I plan on feeding a mash or crumble to start and a scratch that has different grain sizes. I would think I would need to feed the grit to.

Anything else? Oyster shells?
