Need roof over 4x5 run

I can install that when I do the vent.
I would love help with that roof! We're going to skip the vent for now though. The gable vents we put in seem to be doing a great job. I'm also still going to put up the plastic deflectors to send window and air vent air to the ceiling. If it needs it, there's a small fan that can go in one gable to blow air out.
Well, off to GA - leaving at 3 am🥱 back in ten days. (Two daughters and 8 grandkids live there. The others are mostly here and 6 more grandkids.)
Thanks for helping us figure stuff out!

So far so good! Following Tonya’s plan, Hubby and I are building the mini roof. Posting a few pics while we take a break waiting for the rain to stop. We cut the rafters diagonally on the table saw by screwing the 1x6 to another board at the right angle and ripped it beautifully. Ripped a couple 6’ 1x4’s for the purlins. I slapped some stain on and sprayed the plastic wavy doohickeys (not the official name😁) black. We cut two 8’ palruf pvc panels in half and we’ll use three to cover the roof. I’ll post again when it’s done!

Yeah! The roof is done! It feels so good to be rid of our menagerie of boards, tarps and bungee cords!
We would have over hung more but the pieces are only 8’ and we had to half them so that’s where they landed.
Thanks to all for helping us brainstorm this and special thanks to DobieLover for the design!

looks great!

that’s the same general design as the roof on my coop and run.

it’s been up for over a year now and has held up to the rain and snow here in CT.

i’m probably overdue to get up there and brush off all the leaves and sticks, though.
Good to know you’re has held up in CT. So maybe mine will last in NY. 😁

Whoopsee!! We made a mistake and hubby put the screws in the valley without thinking cause of the way the wavy plastic doohickeys were designed made it look like that was the home for a screw.
Bummer. I’m thinking we will glob silicone around each screw or see if I can find rubber washers that would keep water from wanting to go in there.
Real rookie mistake. He is usually brilliant about such things but I guess our age is showing. Sigh.

fwiw mine is screwed down in the valleys of the corrugated plastic and i haven’t had any issues with leaks.

silicon definitely won’t hurt, but i’d imagine it’s overkill.

Oh Midnight so glad to hear that!
The screws have little rubber washers already and they are screwed down well. So I guess we’ll only silicone if we notice a drip.
One problem at a time being solved. It feels good. Counting the days till the first lil lady lays the golden egg. 😁
