Hi, I just brought in a 4 week old duckling, who came from a special circumstance. At just days old he was found in a yard in town, thankfully by a woman who bought him food and gave him plenty of water and clean area to live in, but she didn't love on him nor did he have any duck friends. She kept him 4 wks until are paths crossed and she gave him/her to me. And lets just say what I had envisioned when he met my flock was about the opposite. First my 8 ducklings are all anywhere from a week to 2 weeks younger then new duck Izzy and they met him with love no aggression at all. He was terrified. Spent the whole first afternoon on the opposite side of the run from other ducklings and anytime they approached him he'd run. When it came bed time he did willing go in a 12 x 12 box stall with everyone but made sure to stay on the far side from the rest. I judt hung out observing he was eating and drinking fine but only wanted to lay with his teddy not them. This morning when it came time to go out he didn't want out so I put him in a smaller enclosure with 2 week old pullets beyond non threatening he was still unsure of them. By the end of afternoon he was letting them within a foot of him. Tonight he went back in to sleep with the rest of the ducks and again chose his teddy over them. When I hold him he is a pita to catch but once you have him he's beyond cuddly. Am I socializing him right? Should I force him out in the flock during the day or let him gradually get comfortable, what is best for him. He seems to be eating and drinking fine.
Thank you.
