Need some advice, please!

Okay... I am a relatively new duck mom and I have absolutely fallen in love with my ducks. I won't bore you all with the back story. Instead, I will get to the point.

I have a wonderful Silver Appleyard girl that I noticed had something going on with both of her feet. We cornered her and I got some pictures. I have read about bumblefoot and it scares me to no end. I just thought that it might not be what is going on with her since it affects both of her feet, in exactly the same place. She eats and drinks just fine. It doesn't look like it bothers her, but I know that ducks hide their illnesses. If anyone else has seen this, and can offer some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.








The first two are of her left foot and the second two are her right.

I would look around her environment to see if there is something she could be getting her toenails stuck in.

Zehn had an infected toe this week, and I think the toenail had gotten torn off. I Es'd her a couple of times and used some triple antibiotic ointment alternating with Traumeel in hopes it would help reduce inflammation, and the inflammation is pretty much gone.

So, I agree with HollyDuckFarmer, and would suggest you try some triple antibiotic without pain killer, twice a day. Speaking of which, I need to go check on my sweet duckies.

One of my ducks started getting those curly "horns" on the center toe... looks almost like papilloma. I asked the vet about it and she said it was normal. I snipped one that got long and curly (like the third picture) because it freaked me out and put antibiotic ointment on it. Didn't even bleed and was fine, almost like a hangnail. I'd be sure there wasn't an infection going on, though, as yours looks discolored. My duck's toe was otherwise normal with the horns.

If anyone else has insight about this I would love to know more... was super paranoid he'd end up like this:

Okay... so here is the latest update:

I have been bringing her in, twice a day, to soak her feet. Here is where the ignorant me asks if it is okay for her feet to soak in a bowl, or should I be using a damp cloth? I've tried it both ways, just in case.

Tonight, we did bath time in tub, soaking of the feet, and then we did another exam. I ran off to get the camera, and my hubby just happened to be of the same mind as this...

....and... of course, I found out tonight that we were out of antibiotic ointment. First thing tomorrow, I am running back to town.

Put some hydrogen peroxide or other duck-safe antibacterial on those toes and be sure the duck sleeps in a clean pen, pref indoors on a towel instead of outside where dirt, poop, and bugs can get at it... looks like there was some blood and you don't want an infection. What is going on with that black toenail? Is that dirt or was there some trauma? The toes themselves def look better. I would also soak a cloth in chlorhexadine if you can get it and apply to the feet and toes if you can... Most important, keep those feet CLEAN!

ps. Does anyone have any specific knowledge about these papilloma-like growths on duck toes? I have been unable to find any helpful information... all I can find online are pictures of jackalopes and old Chinese ladies with horns sprouting from their foreheads!
