hi. I’m new to this whole backyard chicken raising! I have quite the mix of hens. My question is so my hens starting laying eggs and I got about five eggs and all the sudden they have stopped. Is this normal? I live in az and the temps just started hitting 105+. Is this why? I am changing their water twice a day and freezing corn in water to help keep them cool. They have an open 20x20 area with a coop inside that I lock them in at night due to coyotes but otherwise they are free range. I water down the grass area that they have and there is plenty of shade. Any help would be awesome!!

There can be many factors that slow down egg production. Feed type, is a major reason. Mainly the protein percentage. The temps also a factor. Stress can be also, but usually to individual chickens rather than all. Since you are in Arizona, you may want to jump on to the Arizona thread. I hang out there even though not a regular resident there now.

You would get answers from peeps living in your area. Compare what you are doing and feeding with those near you.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,, and :welcome
