ducklings! I think Khaki Campbells have to be vent sexed this early on--much easier in ducks than in chicks. Here is a video link if you are interested: http://www.metzerfarms.com/SexingVideo.cfm?CustID=62960
You
probably already know this, but male ducks talk in a more quiet raspy voice and females have a louder more clear quack. I am not sure how early this shows up, but you can listen an see if one has a more clear chirping and the other sounds more raspy. I know the bill color doesn't show up for a t least a month or so.
Lock down for me isn't until tonight, so I have to live vicariously through others! Loved the pics!

Thanks for the advice.

Since I don't think egg #3 is going to make it here, we went and picked out two new duck. The owners were not sure exactly what they were (?). They are 5 days old. They look a lot like my Khaki's.

Moo-Shu fell in the water dish..then bailed..fast! lol.

I had to unexpectedly and quickly help Ming-Ming when he was born. He managed to fetch his bill up on a sharp piece of shell while zipping and cried. He got unstuck the first time, then tried zipping more and got fetched up again and cried some more then started to bleed. I grabbed the tweezers and help him break away the bothersome shell. Then put him back promptly to see if he would continue on o.k. Every time he tried to zip he cried more and more. So finally I gave him a hand again and helped him finish painlessly. But we weren't out of the woods there. He still had his cord attached to him and his yolk sack. And when he came out he was not moving and cheeping a lot. Moo-Shu was being a nasty little duck and almost violently pecking at him so I took Moo-Shu to the brooder. He was ready anyways. I watched Ming-Ming nervously for a while and when I realized I couldn't do anything to help him I went off to bed. When I woke up the this morning I thought for sure he was a goner. But he was up and cheeping! He was very sluggish on his feet. And I don't think he quite got the hang of it until I put him in the brooder with Moo-Shu. All is well now though. PHEW!!!

(Moo-Shu is still kind of the rebel duck...a bully.)

Oh my gosh! I am going to have my first chick EVER hatch within the hour. This morning I woke up and found a pip. Went to work and came home to 3 pips but the first pipper hadn't made much progress. Well went in the kitchen to make dinner, came back not 15 minutes later and the first one to pip had unzipped 3/4 of the way around the egg! So that is where i am waiting for the first silkie to hatch out. I will post pictures as soon as I can. The kids are turning it into a contest and guessing what color he/she will be.

Are ducklings as nasty to new babies as chicks are? Noticed in the pictures that there are two larger ducks and the two smaller ones. Just wonder how the older ones are handling the new. I'm interested in getting some ducks, but haven't yet, so I have no clue. :)

If you're referring to my pics, then they are getting along fine. Of course we had the two little ones here first then found out the 3rd duck had passed in the shell and went and picked up two more. So the big guys are new to the crowd lol. They blended in just fine. I have one duck one of the smalls that picks on all of them. Even the bigs. lol. Just a personality trait I think.
