What kind of bator? If it's a1588 Hova..no worry, it takes care of itself once you plug it in. Air! A nice thing to have. If no air..switch your eggs around when you turn them. I found that hand turning worked better also, the turner makes it way to close on those dry hovas to the heat rods.

Dry air..100~101 is ok. I found though, with my dry bator, if the humidity was much over 60, it got way warm in there.

Good luck..have fun..and welcome!

What fun it is to start hatching chicks! I just use a flashlight to candle my eggs. If I candle in a dark room it works great. My incubator is in my kitchen too. It is conveinient to have it nearby. Welcome to the hatchalong!

Hi Kraftyladies! I just hatched out 13 English BBSOrpingtons last hatch! They were part English and part American. So cute!
Regarding the humidity...it really depends on your incubator model. My incubator is a Brinsea...I keep my RH at 40-45% up until "lockdown" and then up it to 65%. I have done two hatches now...perfectly. No shrink wrapped or drowning babies. However...that is the recommended RH for my incubator...yours could be different. Do you have a homemade one? A LG? Let us know and we will help more.

I have a hovabator 1588 and there is no indication for moisture in my instruction sheet. What should I do? it only says to fill one trough for incubation and fill the two through for lockdown, I'm worried I'm gonna mess it up

...I'm screwing this up I'm sure. I keep forgeting to turn these eggs. My goal is to turn 5 times a day so about every 4-5 hours.
I was supposed to turn them at 6 and just forgot till it was 8. now I don't think I'll have time to do all 5 turnings. We are going to church so we won't be back till 2 or 3 (going out for lunch after)
I need this hatch so I can fund my egg turner,

this is making me nevous
GRRRRRR

My incubator is a Brinsea eco advance... the temp has been between 99.5 and 99.7 and the humidity i have had between 45 & 48 %. I was going by the instruction booklet and it said the RH should be between 40-50. Also I have another question, when I got my eggs and unpackaged them, I only let them set out for about an hour and a half before I set them in the incubator. Then AFTER I did that I found where people said to let them set out overnight then place in incubator. I was a little excited I guess... Thanks everyone for all the responses... I am looking forward to hatching along with you!!

I did the same thing as I'm new to this also. I got the eggs read the instructions which didn't say anything about mailed eggs settling for a day. So I just prayed they would still hatch, at least one. I had 5

hatch. Good luck with your hatch.

I am on my second hatch and my first the temp and humidity were all over the the place as with this one. Temp was 92 to 110 and the humidity was 35% to 90% and I have a 11 out 13 hatch. I got two that are due tomorrow and then 9 more on the 22. This is my thinking "Mother nature is not perfect when it comes to keeping the temp and humidity just right so why try to make it perfect in an incubator for it would not be under the chickens fluff".
